Instead of one city-wide forecast, we show current conditions, a 12-hour outlook, a 7-day forecast, and 30-minute hail & severe-storm alerts for each district individually.
Weather data comes from Open-Meteo, powered by Environment Canada's GEM model — the same numerical model used by Canadian meteorologists — refreshed every 10 minutes, with no API key or signup required to use the map.
Calgary sits in Alberta's "Hailstorm Alley," one of the most hail-prone regions in North America. Our hail alerts flag when the model forecasts a hail-bearing or severe thunderstorm in the next ~30 minutes. This is a model forecast, not a radar-confirmed guarantee — always follow official Environment Canada alerts for public safety decisions.

How often is the forecast updated?
Weather data refreshes every 10 minutes from Open-Meteo’s Canadian GEM model. Each district shows current conditions, a Now/+30m/+3h/+6h/+12h outlook, and a 7-day forecast.
Which Calgary communities and towns does it cover?
Every Calgary community shown on the map (see the full list below), plus the surrounding towns of Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, Okotoks, Springbank, Harmony, Bragg Creek, Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Kananaskis and Upper Kananaskis Lake.
Are the hail and severe-storm alerts official Environment Canada warnings?
No — they’re a model forecast (hail-bearing or severe-thunderstorm signals in the GEM model’s next ~30 minutes), not a radar-confirmed guarantee. Always follow official Environment Canada alerts for safety decisions.
Why does Calgary need weather data by district instead of one city forecast?
Calgary is large enough that conditions — especially summer hail and thunderstorms — can differ sharply between, say, the NW and SE quadrants at the same moment. A single city-wide forecast averages that away.
Is it going to hail in Calgary today?
Open the map and check the hail-risk scale in the bottom-left panel — it grades the next 12 hours from None to Severe for each neighbourhood, and a banner appears if hail or a severe storm is likely in the next 30 minutes — and official Environment Canada warnings and watches are shown too, checked every 2 minutes and always labelled as Environment Canada’s. Calgary sits in Alberta’s “Hailstorm Alley,” so summer hail risk is common; the graded risk itself is a model forecast — follow official alerts for safety decisions.

What is the air quality in Calgary right now?
Each neighbourhood popup shows the Canadian Air Quality Health Index (AQHI, 1–10+) — the same index Environment Canada uses. We compute it from ground-level ozone, nitrogen dioxide and PM2.5, so it reflects smoke and smog, not just fine particles. Bands: 1–3 Low risk, 4–6 Moderate, 7–10 High, 10+ Very high. During wildfire season Calgary’s AQHI can rise quickly, so check it before outdoor activity.
Can I install Calgary Weather Map as an app on my phone?
